Pitbulls are known for their intelligence and loyalty. They are also loving companions and pets that are good with children and make protective friends to all the family. Some American Pitbull Terriers are dual-registered as American Pit Bull Terriers with the UKC and as American Staffordshire Terriers with the AKC; however, this draws criticism from many who point out that the bloodlines have been separate for too long to be considered the same breed.

Pitbulls - Rescues - General Description

Pitbull is a medium-sized dog that can be of various color patterns and is a very popular breed nowadays. This breed has been developed over hundreds years. Nowadays this is a dog, which is a good worker and is well suited to most any task requiring strength, agility, and intelligence. These dogs are very strong. They should be built well, very muscular with well-pronounced chest and legs.

Pitbulls - Rescues - Appearance

Head: The head is often described as brick-like, but it is actually more in the shape of a wedge. The muzzle may vary in length but a dog with a well-developed head will have a wide muzzle at maturity ending at a muscular jaw.

Tail: The tail is rather thick and ends in a tip. Some Pitbulls may have their tails cropped, although this is not recommended; it affects the dog's balance. The tail should never be in the shape of a corkscrew.

Ears: The ears are set rather high on the head and may be cropped or un-cropped based on preference. When the dog is interested or expresses joy in something its ears will often move toward each other revealing wrinkles on the forehead.

Nose: The nose of a Pitbull can be of any natural color. But, in most cases, it is black, red, blue, or speckled.

Eyes: The eyes are round or oval and may be of various colors including blue, which the presence of Merle gene causes. Merle genetics may also reveal in blotches on the coat of Pitbulls. It typically manifests in reds and blues blotches of the Pitbull.
